Thoughts of B.Pharm Batch of 1997

“ Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes “

The Transformation of a barren hill into an International Education town, Manipal, is nothing less than a miracle and is rightly attributed to its chief architect Dr. T.M.A Pai, Padmashree awardee.

Dr. T.M.A Pai needs no introduction. A physician by profession who turned into a banker and educationist to propel society towards self-sufficiency. A visionary with exceptional conviction who began his journey by establishing the first allopathic clinic in Udupi and didn’t rest till Manipal acquired a prominent place in the World Map. Manipal today attracts students worldwide and trains students through campuses and distance learning across the globe. He never lost focus and relentlessly worked towards establishing various educational Institutions despite the roadblocks he encountered. He founded the erstwhile Syndicate bank and his brother in an era of constant hardship with a lot of operational hurdles. He laid the foundation for the pigmy scheme, which is widely accepted and a rampant saving habit today. His vision and efforts resulted in the first private, self-financing medical college offering MBBS in India. He then established a string of educational institutions to offer all basic education and specialization streams at one location. He is very fondly remembered even today as the architect of the university town of Manipal, India.

Dr. Pai started small but dreamt big. He incorporated scale in all his actions. One small example is the provision created for an elevator in 1960, keeping the future demand in mind. The benefit of his efforts is reaped by millions today, be it the education system, financial sector, or healthcare system. The healthcare system caters from the pediatric to the geriatric boasts of successfully treating many rare cases. Constant growing employee count due to the expansion of the Manipal group is a boon to job seekers.

“A problem is something to be solved, and an obstacle is something to be overcome” Dr. T.M.A Pai.
A mantra that has inspired all the students at Manipal. What, we imbibe at Manipal apart from the curriculum is the passion and the dedication which has been handed over as a legacy by Dr. T.M.A Pai.
Dr. Girish Pai Kulyadi’s out-of-the-box thought process and effort culminated in the book “Pharmaceutical Consumer Complaints.”

The Manipal cGMP Museum is the world’s first cGMP virtual museum project, which is the brainchild of Dr. Girish Pai and is based on his book “Pharmaceutical Consumer Complaints: A guide to Academia and Pharmaceutical Industry.” It is a novel concept depicting the real-life quality issues from the Pharmaceutical industry. The Museum is a virtual knowledge-sharing platform aimed at making a meaningful and serious difference in the pharmaceutical field, benefitting both students and professionals. The museum is one among the many innovations from the stable of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal.

The B Pharm Batch of 1997 takes pride in associating itself with such an innovative project from one of its own. They feel proud and privileged in dedicating this project to Dr. T.M.A Pai as a token of their appreciation and respect to the founder of their alma mater MCOPS, MAHE. The constant emphasis of Dr. Pai has been to impart world-class education and lay a strong foundation during the developmental years of students equipping them to achieve greater heights in the field of their choice. We cannot measure the impact our teachers, and the entire ecosystem at Manipal have had on our lives and their role in moulding us into such refined human beings. All we can say is a simple, sincere THANK YOU, and we do it by dedicating the “Manipal cGMP Museum” to its founder and architect, Dr. T.M.A Pai, Padmashree Awardee.
